Jim Elliot Chosen as One of the Top 50 Christian High Schools in the Nation
Jim Elliot Christian School of Englewood, Colo. has recently been named one of the top 50 Christian high schools in the nation by TheBestSchools.org, a leading resource for campus and online education. This prestigious award comes shorty after significant changes have been implemented at the school.
A new school administrator was recently hired at Jim Elliot Christian School in the spring of 2014. A veteran of school administration, Wayne Embry brings a wealth of experience to Jim Elliot Christian School. Embry’s resume includes serving as a previous administrator for six years, principal for three years, athletic director for eight years, teacher for 14 years and a coach for 19 years. He is also a retired Army National Guard Lieutenant Colonel of 29 years. Embry holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Florida State University in Physical Education and Science and a Master’s of Science degree from Capella University in Educational Administration.
“I am grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of Jim Elliot and am honored that we were chosen as one of only two schools in the state of Colorado this year to be in the top 50 Christian schools in the entire nation,” says Embry. “I believe there is a powerful and successful future in store for the young men and women that attend this school.”
In addition to a new school administrator, the school has also converted to new curriculum. The change was initiated to integrate more Biblically based studies. “We found that changes were necessary and in the best interest of the students,” states Embry.
Jim Elliot Christian School offers core academics, a variety of successful sports programs, theater, art, dance and formational classes like Bible education and worship. Classes are offered for both part-time and full-time students in sixth grade through 12th grade. “At Jim Elliot Christian School, there is a focus on both academics and the formation of Christian disciples,” says Embry. In addition to classes, community service projects are scheduled throughout the year for both students and teachers to work together to give back to the community and tangibly show the love of God, Embry explains. Teacher-student mentoring is also a unique benefit offered to the students of Jim Elliot Christian School. Shortly into the school year, students choose a teacher as their mentor to help guide them both academically and spiritually. As a requirement for graduation, students must also take a five-day, cross-cultural mission’s trip designed to grow their understanding of God, put their beliefs into practice and take the Gospel message into different parts of the world. Jim Elliot Christian School students and graduates have been on mission’s trips to nearly 70 different countries collectively.
Jim Elliot School officially opened in September of 1991 with twenty-three students. In 2004 the board approved a name change from Jim Elliot School to Jim Elliot Christian School to better reflect the spiritual emphasis of the school. Since the inaugural graduation in 1995, hundreds of students have graduated from Jim Elliot Christian School and continued on to successfully study at colleges and universities around the world. Others have made great achievements in the mission field and U.S. armed forces. To learn more about Jim Elliot Christian School, please visit jimelliotschool.com.
